2025 Jane George Scholarship Contest
Each year the Northeastern Center awards the $750 Jane George Scholarship to an area student seeking a career in a mental health profession. This scholarship is dedicated to the memory of Jane George, Nurse Case Manager, who worked at Northeastern Center for more than seven years until her passing from cancer in October of 2002.


Who can participate?
- To qualify, the student must be a college-bound senior planning a future career in mental health. This could include a career in counseling, social work, or medicine.
- Entrance is limited to students from Noble, DeKalb, Steuben, & LaGrange counties in Indiana.
- Each entrant should complete an essay of 1,000 words or less focusing on one or both of the following themes:
- “What in my life has motivated me to pursue a career in mental health?”
- “How I plan to contribute to the future of mental health.”
- Essays should be typed and double-spaced.
- Employees of Northeastern Center and their family members are ineligible to participate in this contest.
Judging Criteria
Members of Northeastern Center staff will judge the entries. Essays will be judged in three areas:
- Content
- Creativity/Originality
- Spelling/Grammar/Punctuation
Entry Deadline
All entries must be submitted by April 11, 2025.
From all entries received, one student will be chosen to receive the $750 Jane George Scholarship. The winner will be notified in early summer.
