Applications are now open for Northeastern Center’s 20th annual Jane George Scholarship, a $750 award available to students seeking a career in mental health.
The scholarship is in memory of Jane George, who worked at Northeastern Center as a nurse case manager for more than seven years before passing away from cancer in October of 2002.
To qualify for the award, students must be:
– A college-bound high school senior from DeKalb, LaGrange, Noble or Steuben counties in Indiana.
– Planning a future career in mental health, including but not limited to, counseling, social work or medicine.
Please note that Northeastern Center employees and their immediate family members are NOT eligible to apply for this scholarship.
Each applicant must submit an essay of 1,000 words or less, answering one or both of the following questions:
– What in your life has motivated you to pursue a career in mental health?
– How do you plan to contribute to the future of mental health care?
A panel of Northeastern Center staff members will evaluate each essay. Entries will be judged based on content, creativity/originality, and spelling, grammar and punctuation. The selected winner will be notified in early summer.
